Pig & Fig Citrus Nursery

California is a great place to live, and it’s a great place to grow citrus! We should have a wide selection of citrus to choose from—but we don’t. The selection at most garden centers comes down to a handful of the same varieties, and the interesting ones simply aren't for sale.

Pig & Fig intends to fix that. I'm building a nursery that will finally provide California with the citrus selection that we deserve — propagated on clean, certified material and sold directly to California home growers. We have a thriving citrus industry in California, but that doesn't mean the choices for home growers and hobbyists should be limited to the same varieties that are found at Home Depot or Costco. 

During my later years in the US Navy, I operated a boutique nursery called FigLife in Northern Virginia. When I came to California in 2022, I realized that while figs are an interesting challenge in Virginia, a more intriguing problem in California was the production of rare citrus trees, so I started my new nursery, Pig & Fig. 

I approach citrus tree production with an engineer’s mindset: defined processes, exacting quality, and attention to detail. Every tree starts from Citrus Clonal Protection Program material and is propagated in a USDA and CDFA-certified greenhouse. Pig & Fig operates in Placer County under the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP) quarantine, with full controls in place. I've designed my greenhouse to be heavily automated, which is how I can run an operation of this size without cutting corners on the things that matter.

By keeping my operation small, I can keep the quality high while providing a diverse selection of citrus.
